When it’s urgent

Before your appointment: important
Do not place tablets or caustic liquids on the gums. Contact the clinic for worsening or night-time pain. Swelling with difficulty breathing or swallowing requires emergency medical care.

Acute toothache: a filling or root canal treatment
Deep decay, pulp inflammation and a crack can cause similar symptoms. At MasterDent, an urgent visit starts with examination, clinical tests and an X-ray if indicated. Initial care aims to help with pain and establish a plan to preserve the tooth.
A restoration may be appropriate when the damage can be treated with a filling. Root canal treatment and its number of appointments are planned individually. Temporary closure is an intermediate stage and needs completion on time even if the pain subsides.

Frequently asked questions
Does acute pain always require root canal treatment?
No. An examination establishes the cause. Some decay can be restored; other conditions require endodontic treatment.
Can treatment be completed immediately?
It depends on the diagnosis and scope. An urgent visit may provide only the first stage, followed by planned completion.
Is an X-ray always required?
The dentist decides whether imaging is indicated. It complements examination and clinical tests.
How is pain control selected?
The dentist considers your history and checks the anesthetic effect. Inflamed tissues may need additional pain control.
Can I skip the visit if pain stops?
Pain stopping does not prove recovery. Do not cancel assessment or completion without discussing it.
Why use a temporary filling?
It seals the tooth between stages. It is not a permanent restoration and must be reviewed on the agreed date.
Should I start antibiotics myself?
No. Antibiotics are not universal toothache treatment. The cause needs assessment and appropriate dental care.
