When professional dental hygiene is needed
Dental hygiene focuses on removing plaque and tartar and preventing gum inflammation and tooth decay. Patients usually visit a dentist because of bleeding gums, bad breath, tooth sensitivity or visible deposits on teeth.
Professional cleaning helps prevent gingivitis, periodontitis and cavities. The dentist removes deposits, polishes the enamel and recommends home care and prevention schedule to maintain long-term oral health.
Dental hygiene procedures
After examination the dentist determines the amount of plaque, tartar and gum condition and selects the appropriate hygiene procedures.

What happens if you skip professional cleaning
Dental plaque does not disappear on its own. Over time it hardens and turns into tartar that cannot be removed with a toothbrush. Bacteria accumulate near the gums and cause inflammation.
This may lead to gingivitis, bleeding gums, bad breath and increased sensitivity. Without prevention inflammation can progress to periodontitis, gum recession and even tooth mobility.
How often dental hygiene is recommended
Most patients are recommended professional cleaning every 6 months. With braces, implants, gum disease or heavy tartar formation, the dentist may advise more frequent visits.
During the examination the dentist evaluates plaque, tartar and gum condition, explains the need for professional cleaning and selects a prevention plan. If necessary, you may consult a dentist at the MasterDent dental clinic in Kyiv, where the hygiene program is tailored individually.
