Aftercare
- Avoid hard/sticky foods on the treated side for ~2 hours.

Keep a recovered tooth fragment in milk or saline and bring it to the dentist. Do not file the tooth or use household glue.

A chipped tooth: protection and definitive repair
Even a small chip can irritate the tongue or cause sensitivity. Following trauma, the root, pulp and neighboring teeth also need consideration. At MasterDent, the dentist assesses restoration, fragment reattachment or other care.
Major damage, cracks and lost fillings cannot always be repaired in one visit. Protection and investigations may precede a filling, veneer or crown. Repeated chipping also calls for assessment of the bite and excessive loading.

Can a chip be repaired in one visit?
Small defects sometimes can. Trauma, cracks or major damage may require investigation and an intermediate stage.
What should I do with a fragment?
Store it in milk or saline and bring it to the dentist, who will assess whether reattachment is possible.
Is imaging needed after an impact?
Suspected root or surrounding tissue injuries may need imaging. An intact-looking crown does not exclude a hidden injury.
Can I file a sharp edge myself?
No. This may enlarge the defect. Avoid loading the tooth and arrange dental care.
When is urgent assessment necessary?
Pain, blood from the center of a tooth, mobility or displacement needs prompt assessment.
When is a crown needed instead of a filling?
Remaining tissue, cracks and loading determine the options. The dentist explains them after examination.
Why does a restoration keep chipping?
Excessive loading, grinding, trauma or weakened tooth tissue may contribute. The cause needs assessment.
How should I eat after repair?
Follow the instructions for the material used and wait until numbness has resolved. Do not test the tooth with hard objects.
