Do not place tablets on the gums or heat a swelling. Tell the dentist what you have already taken. Difficulty breathing or swallowing with swelling requires emergency medical care.

Pain relief does not replace definitive treatment
Acute toothache may be related to decay, pulp inflammation, trauma or tissues around the root. At MasterDent in Kyiv, the dentist checks symptoms, examines the area and requests imaging when indicated before selecting initial care.
Temporary relief from medicine or local anesthesia does not mean treatment is complete. A restoration, root canal treatment or another procedure may be needed. The dentist explains follow-up timing and which changes require urgent contact.

Frequently asked questions
Will pain disappear immediately?
Initial care aims to reduce pain and start appropriate treatment. The cause and tissue condition affect relief; an immediate complete result cannot be guaranteed.
Can I just have an anesthetic injection?
Anesthesia without diagnosis does not address the source. The dentist determines the required treatment.
Do I need an X-ray?
Imaging is selected after assessment. It is part of evaluation, not a universal answer for every pain.
What should I tell the dentist?
Mention medicines, doses and timing, allergies, medical conditions and the nature of your symptoms.
Can I heat my cheek?
Do not heat or puncture a swelling. Arrange dental assessment.
Should I start antibiotics?
Only if prescribed. Antibiotics are not universal painkillers and do not replace dental treatment.
Do I need further care if pain stops?
Yes, if treatment remains incomplete. The absence of pain does not establish recovery.
When is emergency medical help needed?
Difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling or marked deterioration requires emergency medical assessment.
