Sports mouthguards help reduce dental and soft-tissue injury risks during contact sports and activities involving falls. Custom designs are made from impressions or scans with consideration of age, bite and activity.
At the MasterDent fitting, retention and comfort are checked. A mouthguard does not guarantee complete protection or replace other equipment. Children and patients wearing braces need regular fit checks as their teeth change position.

Which sports need a mouthguard?
Activities with a risk of collision, impact or falling may benefit, including boxing, wrestling, hockey and basketball. Discuss your activity with the dentist.
How is a custom guard different?
It is made for your teeth and its retention is checked. A good fit may improve comfort; the most useful guard is one you wear consistently.
Does a guard prevent every injury?
No. It can reduce the risk and severity of some dental and soft-tissue injuries but cannot eliminate them. Use other recommended protective equipment as well.
Can it be worn with braces?
The dentist or orthodontist must allow for brackets and tooth movement. Do not use a tight appliance without professional advice.
Can children wear one?
Yes, when appropriate. Growth and changing teeth mean that children need more frequent fit checks and replacement.
Can I sleep in a sports guard?
