Do not try to lighten gums with acids or tooth-whitening products. A new or changing patch, particularly with an ulcer, requires diagnosis first.

Gum depigmentation: an aesthetic decision after examination
Dark gums can be caused by natural melanin, but pigmented areas do not all have the same origin. Before cosmetic correction, the dentist reviews the history, examines the tissues and recommends further investigation if needed. Physiological pigmentation alone does not mean disease or poor hygiene.
At MasterDent, the suitability, method and area of depigmentation are discussed individually. This differs from tooth whitening and gum contouring. A uniform color or permanent result cannot be guaranteed: pigmentation may recur and recovery depends on the procedure.

Frequently asked questions
Do dark gums always mean disease?
No. Natural melanin pigmentation can be normal. A dentist assesses the cause of any changes.
Can every dark patch be lightened?
Diagnosis comes first. New, uneven or changing areas should not be cosmetically concealed without assessment.
Is this the same as tooth whitening?
No. Depigmentation concerns gum tissues, whereas tooth whitening changes tooth color. Methods and indications differ.
Is a permanent pink color guaranteed?
No. Pigmentation can recur; uniformity and duration depend on the tissues and method.
Which correction method is used?
The method and suitability are agreed after examination. Specific equipment and the plan must be confirmed at consultation.
Can I do it at home?
Do not use acids, abrasives or tooth products on gums. They can damage the tissues.
How long does recovery take?
This depends on the area and method. Your dentist gives individual instructions for food, hygiene and follow-up.
How much does depigmentation cost?
There is no separate current price-list item. Scope and cost are agreed after examination; gum contouring prices do not represent depigmentation prices.
