Fissure sealants

We seal natural grooves on molars and premolars with a light-cured resin to block plaque accumulation and prevent decay.

What it is

  • Fissures are natural grooves that tend to trap plaque.
  • A sealant is a light-cured material that “locks” grooves and simplifies hygiene.
  • Non-invasive sealant - no drilling when fissures are clean and sound.
  • Invasive - minimal opening of stained fissures for reliable bonding.

Why it’s needed

  • Long-term decay prevention for permanent molars.
  • Easier daily hygiene - fewer plaque stagnation zones.
  • Helps avoid future fillings.
  • Recommended soon after eruption of first/second molars when indicated.

How it goes

  1. Assessment
Check fissures, disclose plaque, discuss options.
  2. Cleaning
    Professional cleaning/AirFlow of occlusal surfaces.
  3. Isolation
Dry field with cotton rolls or rubber dam.
  4. Etching
Acid etch, rinse and dry enamel.
  5. Sealing
    Apply sealant into fissures, light-cure.
  6. Check
    Occlusion check, instructions, recall plan.
